First Baptist Kamloops is planning to send a Regional Team of 30 individuals to minister to the practical needs of seniors living in Port Hardy and to share the Gospel with them. Port Hardy will take the lead in ministering to the spiritual needs in the community with First Baptist Kamloops and other Interior Associational Churches working to meet the physical needs. Some of the physical projects require technically proficient carpenters, plumbers, and electricians. We are working on assembling the necessary skill sets to effectively accomplish these tasks.
Additionally, we are planning on taking spiritually mature, older teenagers (15-18 years old) to deepen their love of Christ, to encourage them to be on mission, and to show love to their neighbours in British Columbia. We are striving to create a balanced team of approximately 30 individuals, with half of the team consisting of technically proficient and skilled adults who can perform the technical labour of construction and renovation, and the other half of the team consisting of spiritually maturing teenagers who are able perform the less technical duties. Team Membership will be comprised of individuals from sister churches in order to deepen relationships within the region. Final Team composition will be negotiated with the pastoral leadership from all partnering churches.
Once the team has been assembled, the team will rendezvous in Kamloops on July 8 in the early morning. The team will travel down to Vancouver for a Ferry crossing and then travel north on the Island. Port Hardy Baptist has agreed to provide washroom facilities from church members so that Team members can take showers and address other basic hygiene. The Team will spend the night sleeping at the church and preparing their meals using the church’s kitchen.
The Team will have a time in the Word every morning, with team members from partnering churches taking turns to lead the devotion. The Team will also have breakfast and dinner together, with partnering churches taking turns to cook the meals. The Team will divide into groups over four days to work on the respective projects, taking a sack lunch with them to eat on the job site.
First Baptist Kamloops will provide the tools and equipment necessary to accomplish these tasks. Work will proceed from Wednesday, July 9th, through to July 14th. As we accomplish various projects, we will seek to share the gospel with the homeowner and invite the homeowner to worship with us at Port Hardy Baptist Church on July 13. One day will be set aside for Team members to explore the town, to have fun and relax, perhaps swim in the ocean, and to learn more about the community and its spiritual needs. We will return to Kamloops on July 15th.
