Jesus going to the cross is a story about love. So much of our reflection upon the cross centers upon the need for the sinner to be forgiven of his sins, but the greatest sin of all comes when the greatest law of all is broken: "You shall love God with all your heart and soul and strength," (Deut. 6:4-6). Through atonement, we may be forgiven of the injustice for not loving God... but even in such a transaction, the sin is bound to repeat endlessly for all eternity, unless the cross also creates a new heart within us.
