Today, we consider Paul's general maxim in Romans 13:1-7 that believers must be subject to the governing authorities. God commands us to respect and to submit to the governing authorities. Yet Christians are not called to a blind obedience to Government but to maintain final and ultimate allegiance to God. Given that government often acts contrary to the Lord's purposes, we need to think carefully about two things: (1) what specifically was the Holy Spirit intending to communicate in this passage in light of the broader context, and (2) what does the whole Bible and the entirety of God's Word say about the Christian's relationship to the government? Follow along as Pastor Josh unpacks Romans 13:1-7.
